The O'Neills.com Leinster GAA Coaching Conference 2012 took place on March 31st. The day began at 9.00am for the 150 attendees. After some tea & coffee the attendees made their way to the lecture hall where they were greeted by Leinster Council Chairman Martin Skelly. Following this there was a short video clip of Wexford Senior Football Managers Jason Ryan highlighting the importance of using games as part of your training sessions. It was left to Declan Smyth (Leinster Tutor Trainer Group Chairman) to set the scene for the rest of the day and send the attendees on their way to the much anticipated practicals.
Hurling Practicals
Martin Fogarty and Brían Ryan started the day for the hurling coaches. There session included and introductory classroom session followed by a practical field based presentation. The key themes to their session were:
- Shooting
- Taking the Right Option
- Use of Numerical Advantage

Michael Dempsey & Andy Murphy then completed a resistance training practical for all the hurling coaches present. The focus on this was using different exercises specific to GAA players

Pat Critchley finished the practical sessions for the hurling coaches. The main focus on Pats session was breaking the tackle and being on the front foot.

Football Practicals

Tadhg Fennin finished the practical sessions for the football coaches. The main focus on Tadhg session was using games to develop good forward play

The conference was closed by the Uachtaran Tofa Liam O'Neill. The conference was a hugh success with the feedback from the attendees very positive.
